It helps control fluid loss to the formation by forming a gel-like barrier that reduces the
permeability of the drilling fluid, thereby minimizing the loss of fluid into the formation.
In both water-based and oil-based mud systems, guar gum is added to condition the mud,
improving its flow properties and ensuring optimal performance during the drilling process.
Proppant Suspension: In hydraulic fracturing, guar gum is used to suspend proppants (like
sand) in the fracturing fluid. This allows the proppants to be transported into the
fractures created in the rock formation, which helps to keep the fractures open and enhance
oil and gas flow.
